Learning From a Crisis About What Working Parents Need

The pandemic cast a spotlight on America's gaps in supporting its working parents. School was practically the only safety net–until it wasn't. Women left their career tracks en masse. As the economy recovers, what changes can business and government make to help working parents do their jobs well, both at work and home? What are the prospects for child care, family leave, new health-care solutions and financial-wellness programs?

From Day One is a Recertification Provider for SHRM and HRCI. This session is eligible for 3 credits from both organizations. The Activity IDs will be sent to attendees after the conclusion of the session.

Workshop: Retention is a 4 letter word: Home, Work, Life. How the Future of Work & Caregiving Intersect to Ensure a Future Ready Workplace

For over a year, we’ve seen kids screaming, dogs barking, and caregivers scrambling to tackle the challenges of life and work. Work and life have merged, and there’s no going back.

The future of working-parent support demands radical change. The status quo was failing-the pandemic made that clear-and our current reality of fast paced change and workforce disruption requires something new.

What’s the answer? Companies must ensure that their people feel valued, seen, and heard. Powerful employee support requires intentional and inclusive solutions. For working parents and caregivers, that means ongoing support, throughout their journey, for all types of families. For the rest of your organization, that means inclusive, intersectional support that focuses on driving belonging and culture. For everyone, the result is a more connected, more productive, and more successful workplace.

Join Kunik, the company that offers whole-person support, for a lively discussion on how you can connect your people, build bridges inside your company, and give working parents the additional support they want and need.

Liz Gulliver, CEO & co founder, Kunik

Workshop: Four Critical Tactics to Building Future-Forward Benefits Policies that Support Working Parents

Employers who are committed to creating a diverse workplace with equitable opportunities for men and women know that while the pandemic shone a light on the challenges of being a working parent, it has been always hard to juggle doing both well.  As we begin to return to some version of “normal,” we cannot ignore the 38% of parents who changed employment status during the pandemic who say they won’t return because they don’t have enough support.

This session will focus on how employers can and should rethink their strategies for supporting working parents across the parenting journey to recruit and retain this valuable employee group. In this workshop, you will discover four steps you can take to assess the needs of your working parents and put an action plan in place; examine companies making an impact on the well-being of parent employees and their employee brand; and learn how to attract, retain, and support working parents through your policies and benefits programs.
