Peniel E. Joseph, PhD, a professor of history at the University of Texas, is the author of the new book, The Third Reconstruction: America’s Struggle for Racial Justice in the Twenty-First Century, which historian Douglas Brinkley has called “a brilliant historical analysis of race relations in 21st-century America. Whether he is discussing Barack Obama or Martin Luther King, Jr., the Black Power Movement of the Long Sixties or the Black Lives Matter zeitgeist of today, Joseph is superb. He is fierce when it comes to promoting racial equality. The Third Reconstruction is an awesome achievement.”

At the University of Texas, Joseph is the Barbara Jordan Chair in Ethics and Political Values, Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, and Associate Dean for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. He is the author of award-winning books on African American history, including The Sword and the Shield and Stokely: A Life. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Melissa is the executive recruiting practice leader for Google Cloud. She joined Google in July 2019 as the Head of Sales Leadership Recruiting for Google Cloud, building out the foundation of Google Cloud’s industry sales and solutions leadership organizations that has differentiated Google in the Cloud space. Today, Melissa is a member of Google Cloud's in-house executive recruiting team, which focuses primarily on hiring Google's most senior, customer and partner-facing leaders. She serves as the Executive Recruiting Practice Lead and Center of Excellence Lead for Cloud.

Prior to Google, Melissa spent a majority of her career within the financial services industry. Most recently as the Director and Head of Executive Recruiting and Board Search at USAA, Melissa built a robust internal executive recruiting team that attracted a record number of top senior leaders to the organization during a time of regulatory and culture change. Melisa began her career in Talent Acquisition for Hudson Global Resources in 2005 in Auckland, New Zealand; and in 2007 relocated to San Diego, California to lead Technical and Executive Recruiting at LPL Financial; the largest independent broker-dealer in the United States.

Melissa received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management and HR from Loyola Marymount University and has a Master's Degree in International Relations from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, where she served as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar with a platform of Youth in Service to Others. Melissa serves as a member of the HOLA (LatinX community) at Google and part of the Google Austin Culture Club.

Vanice serves as Dell Technologies’ Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer, responsible for the company’s global diversity and inclusion initiatives. In this role, she partners with leaders and team members across the organization to deepen and advance Dell’s culture of inclusion and to build a workforce that better represents the customers we serve. During her 20-plus year career at Dell, Vanice has held multiple Sales Learning & Development and HR leadership roles, most recently serving as VP of Learning & Development in Talent & Culture where her inspirational leadership helped transform the organization with signature leadership development solutions and the Dell Learning Studio.

Prior to joining Dell, Vanice taught Math to secondary students. She has always had a desire to help others grow and develop and feels fortunate to be able to do this in a corporate environment. Vanice received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and her Masters in Education Administration from Texas State University. She was born and raised in Austin, Texas and still lives in the area where she enjoys serving the community and helping others. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, planning family adventures, traveling and exploring new restaurants.

Dan Goodgame is Texas Monthly’s editor in chief. A Pulitzer Prize finalist and best-selling author, Goodgame joined TM in early 2019, after serving as a vice president at Rackspace, a cloud computing company based in San Antonio. Before that, Goodgame was editor in chief of Fortune Small Business magazine, whose subscribers were more than a million owners of entrepreneurial companies. He earlier worked for Time magazine as White House correspondent, Washington bureau chief, and assistant managing editor. He is coauthor of the book Marching in Place, about the first President Bush. Goodgame previously worked for the Miami Herald, including as a correspondent in the Middle East, covering the Israel-Lebanon and Iran-Iraq wars. A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Goodgame earned a bachelor's degree at Ole Miss and an master’s in international relations at Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.

Jeannie Steele is the head of global talent acquisition at Advanced Micro Devices. At AMD, he works with the global human resources team to attract and hire top talent into the organization. With more than 25 years of corporate and agency recruiting experience, Jeannie is a proven leader with demonstrated ability to build global talent acquisition teams.

Prior to joining AMD in 2016, Jeannie held various TA leadership roles at Entegris, ATMI and Applied Materials. Jeannie has a BS from Texas A&M University and an MS from the University of Houston – Clear Lake along with SPHR and GPHR certifications.  She lives in Wimberley, TX with her husband, 2 children, 4 dogs and a 150 pound tortoise.  In her free time she volunteers for organizations that support children’s education and animal rescue.

Kim Colbeck is the VP of HR for Maximus Inc.’s U.S. Health and Human Services business.  In this role, she oversees the Human Resources function for over 10,000 employees all over the US. Currently, she has a team of 50 HR employees reporting to her across the country, working on recruitment and retention for over 1200 state and local governments contracts.  She has been in HR for over 30 years and besides government contracting, she has also worked in a Fortune 500 Oil company for over 10 of those years.  She holds certifications as an SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) from HRCI and a SCP (Senior Certified Professional) from SHRM.  She lived in Scotland for several years, is married and has two grown children.  An important part of her personal ethos is giving back and she has served on the Maximus Charitable Foundations Board of Directors, and has mentored many young professionals in their careers.

Evan Smith is the CEO and co-founder of The Texas Tribune, a pioneering nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news organization whose deep coverage of Texas politics and public policy can be found at its website, texastribune.org, and in newspapers and on TV and radio stations across the state. Since its launch in 2009, the Tribune has won international acclaim and numerous honors, including a Peabody Award, 23 national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association and three general excellence awards from the Online News Association. Evan is also the host of “Overheard with Evan Smith,” a weekly half-hour interview program that airs on PBS stations around the country. A native of New York, he's a graduate of Hamilton College and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Sayar Lonial is the Associate Dean for Communications and Public Affairs at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, in Brooklyn. In that capacity he leads a team tasked with internal & external communications, press relations, and community outreach while maintaining a wide variety of public-private partnerships to further the school’s multifaceted mission.

In addition to his communications role at Tandon, he also serves as the Interim Executive Director of the NYC Media Lab, whose mission is to amplify media innovation and build a pipeline between companies and academia, while at the same time ensuring that all of these technologies are available to as diverse a community as possible.  Lonial’s other current titles include Chair of the DUMBO BID Board of Directors, Secretary of the MetroTech BID, Executive Board member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and Board Representative to the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. He is the former Chair of  Brooklyn's Community Board 6. Previously, Lonial served as the Lower Manhattan Development Corp.’s Director of Planning & Development, ensuring community input into the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan after the September 11, 2001 attacks, overseeing such initiatives as the rehabilitation and creation of more than 30 new parks and open spaces and the creation and preservation of some 3,000 affordable housing units in Lower Manhattan. In addition to State and Federal government experience, Sayar also served as Deputy Chief of Staff in Council District 1, Manhattan. Prior to his work at the Council, he served on the Master Planning team for Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Kathryn Lundstrom is ADWEEK’s commerce and sustainability editor, covering the retail media boom and the advertising and marketing industry’s response to the climate crisis. Before joining Adweek in 2019, she wrote about politics for The Daily Donut, analyzed policy at the Texas Capitol and checked facts at Sports Illustrated. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master’s in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a master of global policy studies from the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Paul Kim is the head of global onboarding at Expedia Group. Previously, he was director of merchant operations at Dosh, an Austin-based card-linked offer platform. He has a BS degree from Baylor University in composite science.

As Vice President of Talent Acquisition, Israel oversees the recruiting team and larger recruiting strategy efforts at Axios, a news and media company based in D.C. Prior to Axios, Israel has been recruiting in the media and ad tech space for over a decade. Serving as Director of Talent Acquisition at The New York Times, leading Tech, Data and Marketing recruiting efforts and a team of 30+ recruiters. He also led recruiting at Dotdash (now Dotdash Meredith), leading a team of five across all business functions. Israel also served on the board for Latino Tech, a non profit in New York City focused on facilitating networking opportunities for underrepresented talent and big tech. After living in NYC for 14 years, he now resides back home in Texas.

Dr. Kazique J. Prince (pronounced ka-ZEE-kay) is based in Austin, Texas, and is the Global Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging at NI, formerly National Instruments. He is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive workforce diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) programs at NI. He also leads the setting of our DEIB strategy, program goals, and metrics working with the organization to drive those outcomes that promote DEIB through communications, education, and leadership actions. He also is the founder and chief executive officer of Jelani Consulting, LLC, a small business established for nearly fifteen years in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging space across industries. He developed Djembe: Inspiring Inclusive Connections as a tool to encourage conversations, inspire bravery and vulnerability, celebrate differences, and help navigate diversity, equity & inclusion.  Dr. Prince formerly served as the senior policy advisor and education coordinator for City of Austin Mayor Steve Adler with education, equitable economic development, and public safety as well as strategies to dismantle institutional racism and systemic inequities are under his portfolio.

In October 2020, Dr. Prince helped launch the Central Texas Collective for Racial Equity as the Interim Executive Director, a nonprofit association to support, in part, the ongoing efforts continued through the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequities focused on education, health and wellness, finance and banking, real estate and housing, and criminal and civil justice. He’s also writes and produces Equity Turned Up, a blog and podcast reflecting on a variety of equity and inclusion topics. Throughout his career, Dr. Prince carved out a reputation as a dynamic and comprehensive communicator and trusted adviser. Governed by a focused vision for the future and fueled by a passion to make a difference in the new global economy, he has considerable experience in the areas of Project & Program Management, Diversity & Inclusion Management, and Cross-functional Leadership Development. He also owns a powerful understanding of people and what motivates them, drawing upon unique skill sets to sell, counsel and encourage others towards meaningful, lasting change. He collaborates with clients working on managing cultural differences by trailblazing through opposition, spearheading forward-thinking, cutting-edge initiatives and programs while successfully uniting team members behind common goals.

Dr. Prince served on the Austin ISD’s Budget Stabilization and School Renaming Task Forces, project manager for the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism & Systemic Inequities, City of Austin’s Equity Action Team, Greater Austin Community Schools Coalition, and Executive Taskforce Committee for the Austin Area My Brother’s Keeper White House Initiative. He previously had appointments as the Advisory Council Chair to the Austin’s African American Cultural Heritage District, Education Committee Co-Chair for the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Texas Diversity Council’s Central Texas Advisory Council, NAACP, and the Austin Area Urban League. His hobbies include playing tennis, blogging, kickboxing, listening to live music, and urban gardening.  He received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at The University of Georgia at Athens, Ed.S. in Counseling Psychology at Georgia State University, Ed.M. in Counseling Psychology at Rutgers University, and B.S. in Psychology from the Benjamin Banneker Honors College at Prairie View A&M University. He is also a Board-Certified Diplomat in African Centered/Black Psychology through The Association of Black Psychologists and certified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory through IDI, LLC. Father of two adult children and supports various other activities in the Austin area.

Jon Greenawalt is the SVP of Customer Transformation at 15Five, and is accountable for the growth, expansion and delivery of the Transform education and coaching practice for leadership and management development, a key component of the company’s holistic, continuous performance management solution.

Jon is a people and culture expert, executive and strategic advisor with over 25 years of global, cross-industry experience working with management teams to build culture, values, leaders, and teams through progressive people strategies that accelerate and support business performance and organizational growth.

He is also the former Chief People Officer at SharkNinja, innovators of the popular Shark and Ninja household appliance brands, where he redesigned the global HR team to deliver the human capital strategy for IPO readiness. He modernized the function, helped re-positioned the global workforce for scale, created the Talent Development team, and was the chief architect and facilitator of the company’s core leadership development and team performance programs.

Elsa Zambrano is Senior Vice President of Global Talent & Culture at NXP Semiconductors. Most recently, she developed and implemented flexible work and well-being strategies to address the effects of the pandemic on NXP’s global workforce. She also partnered with senior executives to define NXP’s purpose, evolved values and behaviors to energize the workplace culture and engage the team.

Elsa joined NXP in 2019 and led the global country HR teams and Operations HR. Prior to that, she held various HR leadership positions with ISS, Sitel, Dell and Applied Materials. She is a strategic HR executive, with a career spanning 30+ years focused on driving business results in the technology and service industries. She has led global HR organizations in 21 countries with more than 60,000 employees, supporting business GMs with $20B+ global organizations. Additionally, Elsa has implemented enterprise-wide, centralized HR structures, and created centers of excellence. She has operated in numerous business environments, including high-growth, turnaround, acquisition integration and restructuring.

Elsa’s specialty areas include people strategies, compensation, HR generalist, staffing, development and change management.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University and her master’s from the University of San Francisco. She currently resides in Austin, Texas, and is a board member of the Andy Roddick Foundation.

Will Anderson is editor in chief of Dallas Business Journal, overseeing a newsroom reporting on one of the most dynamic economies in the country. He leads a staff of about a dozen covering business, real estate, finance and much more in the nation’s fourth-largest — and soon to be third-largest — metro. He previously spent more than seven years at Austin Business Journal, a sister publication.

Dr. Chinyere “ChiChi” Anyanwu is the Director of Organizational Development & Culture at CPS Energy. In this role, she oversees Leadership Development, Succession Planning, Performance Management and People Analytics. She works directly with the CPS Energy C-Suite to establish culture and set the path to a learning organization through development and an environment of continuous learning.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware, a Master’s in Management of Technology from UTSA, and a PhD in Organizational Leadership from University of the Incarnate Word.

Dr. Anyanwu is a Project Management Professional (PMP), an Organizational Development (OD) professional, a Strengths Coach and a Certified Professional Coach. She is passionate about coaching and developing talent and is committed to individual and organizational growth.

Outside of work, Dr. Anyanwu enjoys connecting with people, spending time with her husband and two daughters, and traveling.

Steve leads McKinsey Implementation’s organization hub in North America and is a leader in the People & Organizational Performance Practice helping clients deliver sustainable impact through systemic transformations. In these roles, Steve is also deeply involved in shaping how we deploy our knowledge, tools, and expertise in ways that allow the firm to work side by side with clients on multiyear transformations while delivering an optimal client experience.

Steve first joined McKinsey after business school at New York University. And, after 3 years serving more than a dozen clients on a variety of issues, joined a global entertainment company in a strategy role. He then returned to the firm to help build McKinsey Implementation, which is now a core component of McKinsey Accelerate. He is a native of Puerto Rico and a fluent Spanish speaker.

Jeremy Schiff earned an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2005 and a PhD in Applied Machine Learning in 2009 from The University of California, Berkeley. In 2006, Jeremy co-founded FotoFlexer.com, an online photo editing company that powered companies including MySpace and Photobucket. In 2009, Jeremy joined Ness Computing as VP of Product and Machine Learning, which was sold to OpenTable in 2014. While working at OpenTable, Jeremy saw first-hand the opportunity to transform the way that recruiting works through machine learning and automation, and founded RecruitBot in 2017 to spearhead the mission to automate recruiting

Vijay Swaminathan is the Co-Founder & CEO of Draup, an AI-Driven Reskilling and Talent Intelligence Platform. Vijay has extensive experience in the areas of Product Ideation, Concept to Productization, and Platform enablement. He brings a wealth of expertise in the areas of Data Analytics, Operations Research, and Strategic Management. He has developed numerous quantitative models and heuristics related to global talent, business analytics, and strategic business initiatives.

Vijay is also the co-founder of Zinnov (a leading research & advisory firm) and TalentNeuron (acquired by CEB a Gartner Company (NYSE:IT)). Kristy has 15 years of experience as a Strategic Human Resource Leader, Change Manager and Organizational Development Expert. She has served in senior leadership positions throughout her career – most notably with Pearson Education and Constant Contact. Kristy brings a big picture perspective and a hands-on, tactical approach to her leadership that she is now bringing to life with SkillCycle (where she is the CEO & Co- Founder). Chad Lafferty leads the international growth and expansion of Attuned, with the mission to make work more meaningful for people around the world. Prior to Attuned, Chad was Managing Director of Wahl+Case, a technology recruitment firm in Japan, one of the most difficult recruitment markets in the world. These combined experiences give him insights into why people join, stay, and leave companies. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and holds a degree in Journalism.

Emmy award-winning journalist Tom Miller anchors KXAN News Today. Tom joined KXAN in 2018, before being named to his current role in 2020.

During his time in Austin, Tom’s coverage has included the devastating Highland Lake floods where Tom walked side by side with homeowners whose homes were sitting in feet of water. Tom was also a key contributor to KXAN’s award-winning save our student’s series, which focused on improving the mental health of students. Within days of being named morning anchor, Tom field anchored outside Austin City Hall as local leaders announced the coronavirus had made its way to Central Texas.

Prior to KXAN, Tom worked in Sacramento where he covered some of the most destructive wildfires in California history. He later won Emmy and AP awards for his breaking news coverage, along with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in the Excellence in Innovation category.

Lynne Marie Finn is the President/CEO of Broadleaf Results, a global workforce solutions company and member of the Aleron Group of companies. Broadleaf is a WBENC-certified WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise) that delivers total talent management solutions to Fortune 500 through mid-size companies to significantly improve the way businesses source and utilize talent. Prior to joining Broadleaf, Lynne served as General Counsel for Aleron (formerly Superior Group), as an Assistant District Attorney for Erie County and was in private practice, specializing in corporate and employment law. Lynne is regularly featured in publications like Forbes and Business First.

Amelia Wilcox is the Founder and CEO of Nivati, a company providing employee stress management and mental health services that employees can access–anytime, anywhere. Recently listed as a Forty Under 40, Fast 50, Twice on the Inc. 500 and twice awarded National Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year, Amelia has exponentially grown her company from a solo living-room service business to an international technology brand. She operates Nivati with a virtual team and provides flexible work for more than 1,200 practitioners across North America while balancing the demands of motherhood with her three daughters.

Paul Agustin is the Director of Solutions Engineering at Betterworks. A highly motivated, passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic professional with a proven record of over 15 years of achievement in Performance Management solutions, customer success, technical support, and educational training. Rob Catalano is WorkTango’s Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer. Rob has spent the last 20 years building HR Technology companies. Haeli Harris is the director of clinical operations at Nivati, a licensed mental health therapist, yoga instructor, health and wellness coach, and mindfulness practitioner dedicated to helping others through holistic health and healing. Tran Andrada has over 25+ years in the HR and Technology space.  She started her professional career in APJ as an HR Specialist and over the course of her career has been an HR Analyst, Solution Consultant, Account Executive, and People Leader leading cross functional teams.  Tran has experience with and managed business applications such as PeopleSoft, UltiPro, ADP’s myriad of systems (EV4, EV5, PayForce, WFN, Vantage) and services.  Last but not least, Workday’s full Suite of HCM solutions.  She has worked in many industries which include: airlines, banking, retail, PEO, and technology. She now leads the Sales Engineering Team at Hibob for the Americas and ANZ.
