Being Mindful of Menopause to Create a Truly Inclusive Benefits Strategy

Although menopause is a significant phase of life that affects about 20% of the workforce at any given time, it is seldom given any attention by employers. The symptoms can take a toll on employees' physical and mental health, which impacts productivity. In a recent survey, 70% of respondents said they have considered changing their job to better manage symptoms — perhaps because only 8% received significant support from their employer related to menopause.

In a time of increasing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, how can employers create an inclusive environment for those experiencing menopause? What should employers do to promote open acknowledgement of - and respect for - employees' experiences with menopause while also being mindful of employee privacy? What kind of benefits and other investments are most effective in supporting workers as they navigate this life event?
